The insufficient 'size, the bad condition of the fabric, and the unhealthy closeness of the present church, combine to make this a work of pressing necessity. It is proposed to build a wooden church, on stone foundations, to hold, when completed, not less than 600 sittings, of which one-third will he free. It has been resolved not to advertise for tenders until the sum of £1000 shall be in hand. The following list represents an amount of £1200 Is, of which the sum of -£718 19s .9d has been received. Parishioners and old attendants at St. Michael's, churchmen generally, and old Canterbury settlers in particular, are asked to join in re-building the Parish Church, the temporary Cathedral, the Mother Church of Canterbury. Subscriptions may be paid to the account of the St. Michael's Church Building Fund, at the Union Bank, to the Undersigned, or to any Member of the Vestry, or Building Committee.
