>v — "WELLiyaTON-, Dec. 10, 6.40 p.m. A meeting of merchants was held to-day, and a deputation was appointed to wait on the Government and urge the renewal of the subsidies to steamers for the conveyance of the English mail each way. The deputation will have an interview to-morrow, and it is understood that the Government is favourably disposed towards a renewal of the contract with Messrs McMeckan and Blackwood. Earl Granville's despatch relative to the removal of the troops is very decided and imperative.
