GENTLEMEN,— As there is an impression abroad that I ha.c withdrawn my name as a candidate for a Beat in -the City Council, I beg to explain that when I found there were five candidates to fill up three vacancies, I requeated my name as one of them to be withdrawn, but I now find that my proposers are not willing for this course to be adopted. I have therefore consented to abide by the result of the poll. You are aware that I was in the Council for several years, and have had the honour of passing the chair ; as such, my municipal character is before you.
