LYTTELTON VOLUNTEER ARTILLERY.

*•» On Saturday afternoon the members of this corps mustered, and under the command of Captain W. H. Hargreaves, proceeded to to the rifle butts in PollhiU's Bay, to compete for the gold medal, value £10, the gift of Captain W. H. Hargreaves ; also, for a rifle, given by Air P. Taylor, value £7; and a money prize, £3, given by Lieut. G. Tayler. The gold medal had been previously fired for, and won by Lieut. Cuff (resigned); owing, however, to some dispute arising, he returned the medal to be competed for again. The conditions for winning the medal are, that it must be won twice by the same person, 5 shots in any position at 300, 400, and 500 yards. Three good scores were made, Gunner Wells carrying off the two highest prizes, and Sergeant Hill the second. The weather was everything that j could be wished, a light N.E. breeze blowing during the afternoon. The medal will be fired for again as soon as the committee have fixed the date. On Saturday next the corps will fire a match with the Timaru Artillery, j The conditions are : — Each corps to fire on its own ground ; 10 men, five shots each, 200, 300, 400 yards ; standing at 200 yards, any position, at the other ranges. The names of the Lyttelton competitors are : — Captain Hargreaves, Lieut. Tayler, Lieut. Walker, Sergts. Hill, Cummins, aud Farrier Child, Guuners Caro, Atkinson, Wells, and Rich. GOLD MEDAL.
