PONGAKAWA TENNIS CLUB

NEW COURTS PAID FOR OPENING ON OCTOBER 18 “The new courts recently laid down have been paid for and I can say that it was a very good effort,” said Mr F. Woolsey, president of the Pongkawa Tennis Club, when giving a brief resume of the Club's activities. There was a' fair attendance of members who decided that the official opening would take place on Saturday, October 18. The matter of subscriptions was roundly discussed and it was decided that ladies would pay £1 and gentlemen the sum of £l/5/-. The election of officers resulted in Mr W. E. Wickham being elected patron, Mr F. Woolsey being re-appointed as president., The vice-president is Mr E. Oxenham and Mr C. Bruntlett will undertake the secretarial duties.. The committee comprises Mrs Oxenham, Miss M. Black, Miss O. self, Miss. Milsom, and Mr M. Wickham. The club captain is Mr Oxenham and Mr, M. Wickham is vice-captain. The club is looking toward to a very enjoyable season after its winter period of eye-opening table tennis. No doubt the miniature game wil have improved the standarld for the summer pastime.
