ENGINEERS REPORT TE PUKE AND MAKETU HI DIN Co Included in the .Engineer’s report, presented to the County. Council’s meeting on Friday last, were the following matters affecting: the. Te Puke and Maketu Hidings Te Puke Riding

The following work was done under Government subsidy: A further 164 cubic yards of metal was spread on the Ohauiti-Waimapu Hoad; 424 cubic yards, on No. 2 Hoad. ' Approaches, wing-walls and handrails of Manoeka Culvert were completed. Maintenance metal was spread as follows: Maungutapn Hoad, 14 cubic yards; Papamoa, Beach Roail, 14; Quarry, 2|; Manoeka Road, 10; Partons , 22; No: 1, 12; and No, 3,2. Tile. Otaiinatua, Airport, Te Puke Quarry ‘ and No. 3 Roads were planed and 'general maintenance work Carried out on Ohauiti, Waitoa, Abbott’s, No. l and No. 2 Roads. A gaiig has been engaged clearing the Maungatawn Drain. Maketu Riding . The following work was done under Government subsidy2o cubic yards of metal spread on „ Rangiuru Pa Road. Approaches to both the Wharere Bridge and Mangatoetoe Culvert were completed .Ninety-seven cubic yards of metal was spread on the Te Matai * Road. Nine cubic yards of metal was used for patchon the Rangiuru Road. " Pumice from the pit near Waihi Beaclr w|?s *1 spread on to the Maketu-Paengaroa: Rhad, 212 cubic yards;. Ford’s Road, 27; and Kaituna Road, .125.

Maintenance pumicing was alsa carried Out on the Old Coach Road. The following roads were graded during the month Old Coach, Conway’s, Black's Roydon Downs, Maniatutu, AlauIngafkngi, Paengaroa-Maketu, Waihi Beach. Arawa Avenue, Maketu Beach, Kaituna, Ford’s, Kelly's, Young’s, Te Timm, Rangiuru Pa, Kaikokopu and Taiuui. ' ' The following roads were planned during the month: —Te Matai, PaengaroaMaketu, Maungarangi, Kaikokopu, Wairangi, Old Coach, Black’s, Pongakawa School, Pongakawa Station, Benner’s, Pukehina, Roto-ehu, Otamarakau Valley and Campbell’s. Mr Benham reported that a cut had been ‘put through the Papamoa Beach Roade by a settler, and had resulted. A bridge would be required. Details of the structure were given. Cr. Evans said that two culverts had been: taken away some years ago. A cut that had been put in recently had prevented the flooding of the Mangatawa Drain. He would like to see a bridge erected, and it was the only solution, Cr Spratt moved-—That the matter be referred to Cr. Evans, the Engineer and the mover, with power to act. —Seconded by Cr. Hume and carried. Cr. Mundt referred to a bridge on Allport's Road. The matter was referred to the Engineer. Cr. Mundt asked that some repairs be effected to the Paengaroa-Maketu Road. Cr. Evans said metal was required on parts of the Papamoa Beach Road. The Waitoa Road also needed attention. The matters were referred to the

Engineer. Cr. Gunton said a pumice pit on Mr. Attingwell’s property should he fenced. Mr. Benham explained the position, and the matter was left in his hands. Cr.. Gunton asked for attention to a culvert pn the roai? leading to the Pongakawa flaxmill. The matter was referred to the Engineer.
