CLEARING . SALES

The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., reports having held a most successful clearing sale of dairy cows, horses implements and sundries at No. 1 Rd., Te Puke on behalf of the Estate of the Late T. P. Lemon. A large attendance of farmers were present from Tauranga, Rotorua and Whakatane districts, while local buyers were well to the fore. The herd of 100 cows were good type Jersey cattle. Calving dates and butterfat returns were not available but the majority were showing well formed in calf. Bidding was exceptionally keen from the first and until the last cow was sold. The farm horses also elicted spirited competition and total clearance was effected. The whole herd of 100 cows including calved cows, three quarter cows, and late calvers realized the remarkabley high average of £lO-10-0, while 75 of the cows averaged over £l2.

The following is a range of prices: Best quality Jersey cows, July and August cal vers £ls 10s to £l7 ; other choice quality Jersey cows £ll to £l4 10s ; cows in milk £6 to £l4 10s ; later calvers £9 10s to £lO 10s ; aged cows and late calvers £7 7s 6d to £9 : three quarter cows £4 to £6 10s ; yearling Jersey heifers small £4 11s to £5 ; very small yearlings £2 113; springing J ersey heifers small £7. 7s 6>d ‘to £7 15s ; very small heifers and late calvers £4 5s to £5 Is ; aged medium draught mares in foal £3B to £43 ; aged light draught mares in foal £l9 to £3O ; aged medium draught gelding £33 10s ; 2yr. draught fillies £23 to £24 10s ; 2yr. draught Geldings £l4 10s to £ls ; yearling draughts £9 10s to £ls. The breeding sows were in poor condition and made from £2 17s 6d to £4 10s ; small store pies made 27s 6d and weaners 11s 6d.

The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co. Ltd., report having held a clearing sale on account of Mr J. W. Rogers, Main Road, on Thursday 21st July. There was a good attendance of buyers and considering adverse weather conditions the cows sold at very satisfactory prices. Owing to continuous wet weather the /ierd, grazing on swamp country, did not come forward in very good condition. The best cows, early cal vers, made from £l2 to £l4 10/; later £8 10/ to £ll 10/; backward and f cows £3 10/ to £6; poor conditioned ewes I in lamb. 10/3 to 13/3; breeding sows to farrow, £5 15/; sows with litter, to £6 5/; slips, 24/. Implements and sundries all sold; under good competition.
