Maoris Defeat New South Wales

By Narrow Margin Sydney, July 27. The first Rugby match between the Maori touring team and New South Walep was played this afternoon in the presence of 25,000 spectators. The game was closely contested and at the end of the first spell the scores were New South Wales 5, Maoris 3. Hodgson scored a try for the former, which Towers converted and Heini kicked a penalty goal for the visitors. In the second spell Smith scored for the Maoris, Hmi’s kick at goal striking the post. Nepia was a tower of strength in defensive play and Harrison, Rogers and Broderick were the best of the forwards. Phillips and Smith in the back division got few chances. A weakness of the Maoris was poor handling of the ball and high tackling.
