Maoris In Australia
Defeat of Toowoomba Brisbane, July 17 The Maori footballers defeated Toowoomba by 35 to 13. There were 3000 spectators and the gate was £l7O. The Maoris early attacked and ITemi kicked a panalty goal. Toowoomba equalised when Macdonald gathered a loose ball and beat Philips. Whitely put the Maoris ahead when he beat three defenders to score a great try which Hemi goaled. After Hemi had been disallowed a penalty goal he finished off a movement started by Harrison with Reedy, and converted his own try. The Maoris were now piaying spectacular football and ten men handled for Phillips to score, The half-time score was Maoris 16, Toowoomba 3. A feature of the match was the grand half back .display by Harrison who generally delighted the critics.
The tackling tactics of the local players worried the Maoris. If Harrison's play surprised so did Ngaia’s. Hemi was off form except with the boot,
Another Maori find was Broderick, who is sure to be picked to play against Queensland on Sat urday. The Maoris are still worried over possession. They were beaten today in the scrums and line outs. -
