Rugby Football

There will be a practice at 1.30 on Saturday for the United Juniors. It is most essential that all players should attend.

A correspondent writes “The Possibles and Probables teams have been selected for an AH Black trial match at Gisborne The inclusion of Moore is certainly a matter for surprise. Joyce, of Te Puke, is probably the best forward in the Bay of Plenty today, but still Moore, a mediocre player even at his best, is selected, and Joyce is an emergency. It appears, sn the face of things, that the Bay selectors are the only ones who think Moore is a top-notcher. Pity Bay footballfif this is so.”

Te Puke Rugby Union

A meeting of the Management Committee of the above Union was held on the 27th May, The President (Mr J. E. Alexander) referred to the appointment of Mr C. Walker as secretary of the Bay of Plenty Union, and stated that from the experience he had of Mr Walker’s outstanding ability he considered the Bay had made a very wise choice. The President’s remarks were received with acclamation by those present.

The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

, Outward correspondence to the Maketu Club was read advising that 18 players’ passes would be issued to each team, and that when the question of a Maori representative to the committee was being dealt with its nomination would receive consideration with other nominations. A letter was read from the Tauranga Union confirming the arrangements for the Parata Cup match at Tauranga on June 3rd, and inviting the Te Puke juniors to visit Tauranga on the same date. — It was deoided to accept the Tauranga Union’s invitation. The Badminton Club wrote re an outstanding acoount for hire of McDowell’s Hall last year.— The Secretary was instructed to pay the account.

Mr Sparks was elected representative on the Management Committee of the Maori players. Accounts totalling £6 12/3 were passed for payment. It was resolved to cancel Club fixtures on 22nd June to allow for a combined Tauranga Te Puke team to play University at Tauranga.

It was decided that one member of the oommittee be in attendance each Saturday at the gate at 1 pm. to supervise gatekeepers. Mr Manning and Mr were appointed for the next two Saturdays.
