The monthly meeting "of the Po u gakawa branch of the Women’s D.vision of the Farmers’ Union was held on May Ist, Mrs W. J. Law presiding over a good attendance. Mrs Nettlingham acted as Secretary in the absence of Mrs Collins.

A competition for shortbread was won by Mrs Davidson, Mrs Tait being second. The competition for next month will be for paper machie work, the entries to become the property of the Division. A second competition — “ The best bloom in the garden.” is to become a monthly one. It was reported that a branch of the Division had been recently formed in Te Puke, the inaugural meeting being attended by a number of members from the Pongakawa branch. Mesdames Law and Cawte reported that they had attended the annual meeting of the executive in Tauranga. Mrs White, the Provincial Secretary, had informed members at this meeting that she had filled 40 applications for housekeepers, and that 146 new members had joined the various branches. An event of considerable importance, it was stated, was to take place at. Tauranga from the 7th to the 14th in9f., viz the formation of “The Country Girls’ Educational Course.” This has been arranged by the Tauranga Provincial executive. The programme drawn up is of a wide and varied nature, comprising lectures to be given by Dr Mc-McDiarm-d, Mrs Mackie M.A, Mrs Glaclcen. N Z A,N S , Mrs Christian, Mrs Castles, Mrs Corrigan, Miss Keatley D.H.S.cb, Mr Ivory, and many others, as well as demonstrations, debates, and visits to places of interest, Entertainments and recreation will keep'’ the visitors fully occupied for the week. It is anticipated that fully 80 girls will be In attendance, the following representing the Pongakawa branch 1 Misses Judith Benner, Peggy Marsh, Berta Hickson, Joyce Carter, Joyce Wilkins and Stella Ball. During the afternoon a dainty tea was served by Mesdames J. Phillips and H. Wickham.
