Proposed Metalling Scheme At last Friday’s meeting of the Tauranga County Council a letter was read from Mr H. Watkinson, District Engineer, advising that with a view to getting information as to what reproductive works are available for unemployed.in the district, his Department had asked him to submit a list of unmetalled roads which, if metal led, would assist'the settlers in further developing their farms. The Unemployment Board wnuld be prepared to subsidise the wages, but not the cost of the material and trahsport, although the Publio Works Department Would probably aOsist towards the latter boat. The Council discussed tho proposal at length, and the roads in the Te Puke and Maketu Ridings were considered as follows t Te Puke Riding.-Waitao Road, Upper Papamoa Road, No. 2 Road, No. 3 Road. Harray’s Road, Ohauiti Road. Preference was fixed as follows S (1) No. 2 Road, (2) No. 3 Road, (3) Bell’s Road, (4) Ohauiti Road.

It was stated that provision had already been made for Harray’s, Waitao and Upper Papamoa ROids.

Maketu Riding,—Rangiuru and Th Matai Roads were on the schedule. The Chairman said there were other roads in the Riding which required improvement. It was stated that attention had been given to the Rangiuru and To Matai Roads.

tt was decided to fix preference fof the Makettt Riding Roads as follows I (1) Te Tumu Road, (2) Kiituna Road.

The Council agreed that ten her Cant of the general rates produced F. nm tiie properties fronting and sorVvoj by each of the roads already indicated in the preference tables be allocated to the scheme. ■
