Tauranga Electric-Power Board

Monthly Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Tauranga Power Board was hold last Friday. Present : Messrs G. H. Mends (Chairman), C. E. S. Gane, H. J. Clarke, J. M. Darragh, W. F. Sinclair, H. G. Lever, and A. Smith.

Local Advisory Committees

The Secretary of the Auckland Electrical . Trades’ Association wrote soliciting the support of the Board in urging the Government to set up local Advisory Committees, consisting of representatives of the Supply Authorities, the Public Works Department, and the trade, to consider questions arising locally under the wiring regulations and to report thereon to the existing Wiring Regulations Advisory Committee located in Wellington and to have power to deal with matters of urgency. The local Ad visory Committee would be honorary. It was stated that local contractors and traders are seriously handicapped by the fact that the Regulations Advisory Committee is located in Wellington, necessitating all matters being dealt with by correspondence.

On the motion of Mr Clark, it was decided that the proposal to set up a local Advisory Committee be adopted. Sale of Electrical Appliances

The Secretary of the Auokland Electrical Trades’ Association wrote stating that the sale of electrical appliances by organisations, other than recognised electrical dealers has been the subject of much disoussion by Supply Authorities and electrical traders. It was suggested that it was necessary that action should be taken by the Publio Works Department with a view to preventing the consequent danger of acoident and even loss of life whioh may arise from the undesirable praotioV mentioned. It was proposed to bring the whole question under the notioe of the Publio Works Department with a view to their taking measures to' remove what is undoubtedly a menaoe to users of electrical -energy. The Board was asked if it would support an effort to remedy what must be considered a very unsatisfactory state of affairs. ' v ~'

It was decided on the motion of Mr Clarke, that the Board could not see its way to support the proposal which meant giving a monopoly with regard to the sale of electrical appliances. Amalgamation Proposal

Correspondence was received from the Secretary of the Tauranga Dairy Association and from Mr A. E." Robinson, Secretary of the Auckland Provincial Farmers’ Union supporting the principle of amalgamation of the three Electrio Supply authorities in the Tauranga County.

Low Pressure

• In reply to Mr Gane, the Secretary stated that no reply bad been received from the Tauranga Borough Council with regard to low pressure.

Mr Gane said it appeared that the Borough Oounoil did not realise the seriousness of the position created by the low pressure. He moved—That all payments to the Tauranga Borough Council be postponed, pending the carrying out of clause eight of the agreement for supplying energy at the specified pressure.—Mr Gane stated that the Board’s consumers were complaining about the low voltaga’and the Board had to protect the consumers.

The motion was seconded by Mr Sinclair and oarried.

Engineer's Report

The Engineer, Mr J, R. Bongard, presented the following report t ! The staff have been engaged on the erection of new services. Thedemand has exceeded expectations. The installing of water heaters on easy terms has resulted in seventeen being signed up to date.
