Hunt Club Ball.

The Hunt Club Ball, held in

the Capitol Theatre last night, was responsible for the biggest gathering that has ever at a dance in Te Puke. Visitors were present from Tauranga, Rotorua,- Matata, Whakatane, Hamilton and the outlying districts, the number present being approximately between four and > five hundred. The Club certainly has reason to be proud of the success that attended its initial effort in this direction. The members bad, however worked indefatigably, and the result justified the confidence of the promoters as to the generous support that would be accorded their ventured The task of preparing for a ball of such magnitude as that held last night is no light one, the decorations alone which in fhis instance consisted of cabbage tree heads, ferns, and festoons of lycopodium, entailing much labour. There was also the issuing, of some hundreds of invitatipns, the preparation of the floor and a host of incidentals to be attepded to. Greater than all, though, was the task that devolved upon the ladies of providing refreshments for the multitude, but they carried it out nobly, and the {[upper tables were replenished time after time from an apparently inexhaustible source. It might be mentioned that the innovation of placing the tables on the stage instead of Using the supper-room, thus providing additional sealing accommodation, was a complete success. As for the supper itself it was all that could he desired, and was thoroughly appreciated by the guests.

Excellent music was provided by the Sunshine Orchestra f)rora Matata, whilst Mr Pilcher, whose services had been enlisted' as M.C., carried out the duties with his customary . taut-: and ability, The Grand March was led by Df and Mrs Bertram, of Rotorua, ap’d the scene when the dancers occupied the floor in the succeeding waltz was V most animated one. * A word of praise is due to Mr Innes Vercoe, Deputy Master, for bis kindly supervision of the general arrangements ; to Mr D. Neilson, the energetic Secretary ; and to various, members of the Club who temporarily occupied the position of waiters and looked after the wants of the, hungry.
