Old fear Passes
Fun at The Mount Midnight on Wednesday last produced scenes of jollity and exuberance and the absence of rain to threaten the next day’s holiday attractions provided another excuse for the outlet of high spirits. The crowds at the Mount were out to make the most of the remaining few hours of the Old Year arid to usher in with .merrymaking the New Year. About ten o’clock, hooters and squeakers, balloons, masks, paper bats and false faces mingled together in a kaleidoscopic dim, which surged about the roads and all sanity for the time being was abandoned in unprotesting jollity, On the stroke of twelve there was a general uproar. The fun continued until the early hours, when most of the revellers departed to their various homes, batches And camps. Some few saw the night right through. With the exception of the removal of gates, no damage was done, the crowds being most orderly and considerate. ■
