MAURICE ANSELL KILLED

’STRUCK BY MOTOR CAR Hamilton, May 8 A fatal motor accident occurred in Upper Victoria Street at nopn to-day, resulting in the death of a young man, Maurice Ansell, aged 21, son of Mr and Mrs Enoch Ansell, of King Street FranktOD, formerly of Te Puke. Young Ansell was proceeding on a cycle along the left side of the road, and essayed to turn into a gateway on his right in front of an approaching car, without giving the "arm" signal indicating his intention to traffic which might be following on behind.

When he was about three parts of the way accros the street,/a t-ixico; t miugab ut 6 passengers and driven by Mr Joseph Ball, came up Horn the rear at a f iir pace, and the driver apparently not divining Anseli’s intention till too late, or thinking he could avoid the lad by accelerating, shot in on a right instead of a left curve Ihe car crashed into the youth, flinging him from hia machine, fracturing his skull and crushing his riba. The car came to a stop with a tremendous impact against a stout 14-inch telegraph post, splitting it in two about 10ft from the ground The car completely crumpled itself up, probablv beyond repair. The driver escaped injury other than shock, but two passengers received slight cuts. Dr; Waddell, who was quickly summoned, ordered Ansell’s immediate removal to the hospital, but the unfortunate young man expired before reaching the institution.
