TAURANGA CONTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of Tauranga County Council wa< held last Thursday. Present: CrsSouthey (Chairman), Hume, Lochhead> Kingsbury, Ball, Vercoe, Lally, and Mc Naughton. . -
The Secretary of tho Pongakawa branch of the Farmers' Union wrote asking the Counci--10 have the pumice pits on. the road in the district fenced, so as to avoid the danger of losing stock while driving.-On the motion of Or Ball, it was decided that the dangerous pits be fenced.
Mr Blomquist, Acting-Secre-tary of the Bay of Plenty Development League, advised that the next conference would take place at the end of August at Rotorua, also that the Committee would be glad to receive a donation towards the League's funds. -Received.
I The manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Tauranga, notified that the Fixed Deposit Bridges Fund Account, £517105, matured on August 14, and ceased to bear interest from th|t date.-It was decided to renew the deposit of the money. Lt-Col. Porritl, Paeroa, wrote suggesting that the War Trophies Committee for the district consist of Lt-Col R. C. Allen, Lt-Col S, S. Allen, and the Mayor of Paeroa. -Agreed to. ' , . Messrs Wilson and Horton, Auckland, wrote suggesting the establishment of an East Coast Development Board.-On the motion of Cr Conncil passed a resolution expressingits appreciation of the efforts of the New Zealand Herald in urging on the Government the development of the East Coast district as being the only means of increasing our exports and consequent ability to meet the\ financial obligations due to the war. I
