MARITIME STRIKE
* HOPES OF SETTLEMENT NEGOTIATIONS PROCEEDING PEACEFUL SOLUTION LIKELY Melbourne, July 24, A deputation from the Trades Union Conference held yesterday to endeavour, to effect a settlement of the maritime strike waited on Senator Millen, asking for a conference between the Government, the owners, and the seamen. Cabinet subsequently met and discussed the position and although no official announcement was made a hopeful feeling prevails that a settlement is imminent. A meeting of seamen agreed not to resume until the secretary, Walsh, is released.
