He stated that he was prepared in 'the event ot the Council deciding ■ to put a new culvert in, and at a evel to carry off the water, to cut the ditch through the road to the depth and width required by the 1 ■ supervisor. -The Council resolved that the supervisor furnish an estimate and report as v ' -to the, benefit , which the proposed ' Work would confer on settlers. The Department of Agriculture ' ; ' forwarded certificates for slaughi licenses for issue to ' '.Messrs Lemon and Washer, Te Puke, and Johnston Bros, Kati- * kati. ; The' Rotprua County Council forwarded a resolution expressing ; its regret at the loss sustained by | the d,eath of Mr D. J. McEwen, ™i' and requested that its sympathy be'conveyed to the relatives of ■ .the deceased gentleman. ■ V; v Mrs McEwfen and family wrote, •; acknowledging the message of '•sympathy received from, the Council. Dr Stuart wrote, intimating . that he had notified Ithe Public : Health authorities of a case of smallpox at Matapihi. i ■... Partridge, Te Puke, wrote stating, that whilst in his employment of breaking stones ' on 'the main road, near the Te Puke saleyards under the County Council on July 8, his right eye was injured by being struck by a piece of metal he was breaking; . The Secretary of the Department of Agriculture wrote stat- - ing that advice had been received to the effect that the Council. proposes to close the road now running east and west alongside the southern boundary of the Department's farm at Tauranga. The letter stated: "I shall be glad to knowwhether this is the case, and if so, what steps your Council intends to take to preserve the access to the southern portion of the farm, • which this road is the sole means Vv of providing. \
