ELECTION OF'OFFICERS. There'was a very good attend- , ance at the meeting of'the Chamber of - Commerce on. Tuesday evening,, when the election of officers for the ensuing year was proceeded with. It resulted as follows President, Mr J. Roberts ; Vice-Presidents, Major : Bennett and Mr Robt. King; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr Robt. Tees; Committee, Messrs Hill, Arkle, Gill, L. Bayliss, Turney, Wrigley, and Young-five ' ■ form a quorum. vfilt was resolved that the annual subscription be 2s 6d. The following resolution was carried,' the' Secretary beingjn?tructed to wire the same to ue Minister for Public Works " That in view of the early opening of the railway line to Te Puke, and its extension toPaen- , garoa and Matata eastward, it is essential that the Government be urged to place'a sufficient sum on the Estimates for the immediate erection of a permanent wharf at the Mount." Bennett was appointed the accredited representative of the Chamber at meetings of • the ■ Paengaroa Progressive 'League and the Matata Farmers' Union;- to be held on Thursday and Friday respectively, for the " purpose of discussing railway / and wharf matters. . W' • On the motion of Mr Ycung, 1 ' '\vas resolved to place on record the thanks of the Chamber to Mr Tees for his successful efforts m obtaining,a daily postal delivery. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
