A DELIGHTFUL social evening in aid of the G.F.S. Hostel funds was held in St. Peter's Sunday School last week. The room was beautifully decorated with choice roses. Dancing was indulged in most of the evening, excellent music being supplied by Mrs. Froude and Sergt. Loveday. Miss Hodgson and Miss Halliday sang several solos, and Miss Hodgkinson and Miss Grice played extras for the dancers. * * . * The chaperons were Mesdames H. Valder, C. Speight, A. Hyde, P. P. White, and Varney. * * * The supper was' arranged by Miss M. McPherson, assisted by the members of the G.F.S. Many regrets were .expressed at the social being the last for this season. <$ ® ® Last week the soldiers at the Waikato Hospital were taken out for a motor run, and then later to "Jesmond" to afternoon tea at Dr. Brewis' home. * * * Mrs. Brewis and Misses Brewis (3) served a delightful afternoon tea, which was very acceptable after the outing. Those who drove the cars were Mrs. Hay, Miss McCaw, Messrs Cooper.and Teddy. 19 9 9 The official opening of the Hamilton Bowling' Club took place last Saturday afternoon. A large number of visiting bowlers were present from all parts of the district. Mr. Da?-ke, president, make a short speech, which was followed by the singing of the National Anthem. S a • Miss Violet Varney then threw the jack across the green amid ringing cheers. The bowlers played all the afternoon on both greens, which were in tip-top condition. The gardens round the greens were looking well, some very fine roses being in bloom. A dainty afternoon tea was served at 3.30, and delicious fruit salad. The tables were decorated with choice stocks, sweet peas, roses, and spirea. * * * A few who were present: Mesdames Meredith, G. Hyde, Bennett, Aiken, Stevens, Manning, Darke, J. Williams, P. Williams, F. T. Wilson, Coombes, Furze, Bushby, Romp, House, C. Innes, E. Hall, Mitchell, E. Cussen, C. Jones, Sims, Beeston, Pillar, English, H. Ferguson, O'Meara,. Petersen, Wilson, F. Brown, Davis, A. Ross, A. Day, W. Hopkins, Tudhope, T. F. Jolly, Francis, Misses Varney, Stevens, Manning, Chadwick, Watty, R. Cussen. Craig, Hopkins. ® <8S ® The last social of a series arranged by ,the members of the G.F.S. for this winter came off on Friday last. The St. Peter's Schoolroom looked very gay and festive, being decorated with bowls of lovely roses. As the evening was warm the girls wore light summer frocks, and the men came in their tennis flannels. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs. Froude and Sergeant Loveday. . Extras were played by Misses Hodgkinson and Grice. * * * The chaperones for the evening were Mesdames H. Valder, C. Speieht, Varney, A. H. Hyde, P. P. White. Miss M. McPherson was in charge of the supper arrangements, and was assisted by the members of the G.F.S. in handing it round to the visitors.

These social evenings have been a great boon to the young people, and it is hoped next year to arrange for similar evenings. 9 9 9 A Garden Fete is to be held at "Dalethorpe," Mrs. A. R. Clark's residence, next Saturday. Various competitions will be held—clock croquet, clock golf, etc. The funds are to go towards the G.F.S. Hostel fund. All who go are asked to take a gift for the Bazaar next month. © ®> @> Miss Snell (Auckland) has been on a visit to Hamilton, staying at "Warwick." 9 9 9 Miss McCaw was at Matamata recently for a short holiday. « ®. ® Mrs. E. Nickle (Cambridge) spent a few days with Mrs. P. Stevens last week. ® ® ® Miss I. Gruar has returned to Hamilton after being away in tho Hot Lakes district. ® ® ® Misses Manning, Chadwick, and Cowie, A.T. College students, have been attending classes at Ruakura Farm. ® ®> ® Mrs. Walshe was in Auckland for a short visit last week. @> ® ® Mrs. Brevner, who has been visiting Mrs. L. Brodie, has gone to Rotorua. ® ® $> Misses Clapcott, Miss Newell, and Miss Wallnutt were in Auckland for a few days last week.
