MRS. DOUGLAS gave a delightful evening at the Nurses' Home last week for. the visiting lady golfers. During the first part of the evening games were played, which caused a lot of fun. Dancing was indulged in for the latter part of the evening. Before the guests departed a dainty supper was served. * * * Some who were present: Mesdames Williams, Dargaville, Heywood, Douglas, Gillies, McCormick, Misses Frater, Preece, D. Brewis, McCaw, G. Gorrie, Upton, Lever, Moginie, P. Gorrie, Fouhy, Stevens, Neill, Wilkinson, Hilditch, Graham, Ranstead, Clark, Cameron, Hesketh, Culling, RothAvell, M. Douglas, N. Douglas, Hay, M. Clark, Ansenne, Stewart, Barnett, V. Brewis. © $> ® The soldier patients from the Waikato District Hospital Avere motored to Mrs. A. J. Storey's last Tuesday. As it Avas Avet and cold, the afternoon was spent indoors. The rooms looked very gay with bowls of spring flowers. * ■ * Mrs. Storey was assisted by her sister, Mrs. Maclean, and they saw that all the guests had an enjoyable time. Archdeacon Cowie occupied the chair. Those present decided to form a branch of the National Efficiency Society in Hamilton. Dr. de la Mare Avas elected president, and Miss V. Graham secretary. Mrs. Kyneton-Parkes was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her interesting address. ss> ® ® Last Thursday evening, in St. Peter's Schoolroom, the members of the girls' local hockey teams were entertained by Mrs Douglas, president of the Hamilton Hockey Association. Dancing and games were played during the evening. * * * The members of the hockey teams presented Miss Harrison with a gold brooch, and Mr. Fabling Avith a fountain pen and a whistle. Miss Harrison and Mr. Fabling both made a short speech, and thanked the girls for their gifts. Shortly after eleven supper was handed round, and a jolly evening was brought to a close. * » . * Those who were present: Mesdames Douglas, Froude, Ross, Bennett, Whitehorn, Wilson, Misses Bollard, Collins, Rowlandson (2), Thompkins, Brosnan; Stevens, V. Brewis, Wyatt, Ranstead, Pickering, Harrison, Ansenne, Preece, and the members of the hockey teams. 0 SB> » The members of the Girls' Friendly Society intend holding a big sale oi work in the Town Hall on December 4th. Various stalls have been arranged, and the members of St. Peter's Guild are busy Avorking to help towards the sale. * * * Mrs. R. Clark is to hold a garden party at her home next month, to help the stalls for the sale. There is a growing need for a hostel for girls in Hamilton, as suitable board for girls is becoming more and more difficult to get.

The members of the Farmers 1 Union arranged a welcome home to the boys who had • been on active service from the Tamahere district. The first part of the entertainment was a concert programme, folloAved by a sit-down supper, and then speeches of welcome by Mr. Hammond, Mr. Day, and Mr. Steele. * » » Captain Raynes suitably replied on behalf of the boys. Dancing followed, which was kept up till an early hour, and was enjoyed by those present. The ladies who had charge <-' supper were Mesdames Hammond, Main, Pickering, H. Windsor, Pilkington, W. Isaacs (Auckland) was in Hamilton last week. * * *' Miss Rothwell is away in Auckland for her annual holiday. • • • Misses Upton and G. Gorrie were the guests of Mrs. McCaAV for the golf tournament. * * * Miss Whitton is visiting friends in the Hawke's Bay district. * • . • Mrs? C. Nixon has been the guest of Mrs. J. Pronton. * * * Miss C. Jolly is staying with her sister, Mrs. H. Biggs, St. Helier's Bay. * * * Misses Fouhy, Moginie, Leves, and Neill all returned to Auckland last week. * * * Mrs. W. Hume spent a few days at Thames last week. * * * Mrs. C. Matthew (Te Kuiti) has returned home.
