FOR FOOTBALLERS.
The Bracken Cup
WHAKATANE, Saturday
The Rugby football season, locally, ended to-day with the RuatokiWhakatane challenge match for the Bracken Cup. The game was played in fine weather, but from the outset Whakatane proved much superior to their opponents, making a score of 17, whereas Ruatoki made no score. Thus Whakatane retains the cup. Two tries for Whakatane were scored by both J. Lawson and G. Doherty, and one by.D. Carter. One was converted by A. McLean.
Prospects for post-war revival- of cricket in this district are bright. The Whakatane Club has been reformed, and' a new club at the'freezing works'has started. There has also been a resuscitation of the country clubs, particularly Matata, Waimana, and Taneatua.
