RUGBY FOOTBALL.
ON Saturday, the annual battle ; , for the '"Charity Cup" took place at Eden Park. The competitors were Railway (the winners of the Senior Championship) and University (runners-up).
Of the Railway team, who had given the Rugby Union officials their assurance that they intended to adhere to the Rugby code and their authority to advertise same, only D. Stewart (captain), Rasmus-
sen and.Lane put in an appearance, Birnie being out of town. The vacacies were filled principally from the secondary schools, which made up a good side. The weather conditions were unfavourable, and as a result only about 200 spectators put in an appearance, the gates being thrown open. The game, which was played under several of the proposed new amendments', was fast and open throughout, despite a waterlogged ground, 'Varsity eventually winning by 15 points to 13: Foir 'Varsity Lewis (2) and Robinson scored tries, all of which Lewis converted, while for Railway, Wilson Badeley and Hawkins were the try getters,' Kelly and Badeley converting one each;
