To encourage an interest in and the proper treatment of Animals, the Committee of the New Zealand Society for the Protection of Womeni and Children and Prevention of Cruelty to Animal®, offers Prizes for the Best Essays on "Kindness t*> Animals." CONDITIONS. 1. Competition open to al young persons of 16 years and tinder, residing within the Auckland 1 Province, as follows: — IstPr. 2nd 3rd 4th sth 10 Yrs and under 15/- 10/- «/- «l- 2/8 13 Yrs and under 20- 15- 10/. 7/8 4--16 Yrs and under 31/- 20/- 15/- 10/- 5/Maximum number of words in Essay: Juniors, 200; Intermediates, 350; Seniors, 600. Through not paying attention to this rule at the last examination, several papers were disqualified which might otherwise have taken a prize. 2. The word "Animals" to mean all living creatures, wild and tame. 3. Every Essay must he a bonafide original composition of the contributor, written entirely without assistance, and certified by a teacher of a public school or private school as having beeni done under his or her supervision. 4. Contributors must write ON ONE SIDE of the paper only, and must sign their full name, with name of school and address; also, state age on last birthday. 5. Contributions must freadh the office of the Society not later than MONDAY, March 22, 1915. 6. Winners' names will be advertised im the "Star" and "Herald" of April 17.
