The Singer Manufacturing Company pi ides itself on the superiority of the needles manufactures by the firm, and spares neither effort nor expense in ensuring perfection in this respect. At its big Glasgow factory 117,000,000 needles are turned out every year from 350 tons of specially manufactured steel wire. The Singer needles may be looked upon with confidence as the finest * and -strongest now on the market.

On Thursday next, the 22nd inst., Carreno, tbe celebrated pianist, gives her first recital at the Choral Hall. The chief charm in Carreno's playing is said to lie in the fact that it appeals even to- those who have little or no knowledge of music. Her playing stirs the emotions. Carreno holds a position in the world of music which might fitly be described as splendid isolation. The season is necessarily a limited one, as Carreno has shortly to leave for America to fulfil engagements.
