The following is an Extract from the Napier Daily Telegraph of a recent issue :— " Convincing pro A of the wiaiiom of the Napier Harbour Board in adopting the Ferro-concrete system in the con struction of wharves was furnished at the Port onlhuisday, 6th June, 1907, in connection with the contract for rebuilding the breastwork, now in .progress. One of the concrete piles driven into the solid to strengthen the front row came to a dead stop after two and a-half days' hammering with a two.ton • monkey,. ,and three five feet dollies were broken in vain efforts to drive it home. As the pile bad not gone to the required depth, it was decided to withdraw it, a work that was accomplished with much difficulty, a pressure of 150 tons hydraulic power being necessary. There was considerable speculation as to the cause of the stoppage, a gener-ally-held view being that the point of the pile had shattered, but on being examined it proved to be in perfect order, without a sign of crack or break. . lhat the system should come through such a test so well ia a matter for. congratulation for ' boih - contractors, Ferro-Concrete Co. ol Australasia, v.
