A NT E D. OPEN LETTER TO OUR CUSTOM FRS. NEW CUSTOMS TARIFF. DEAR SIR OR MADAM, — Proposed alterations of Boot Tariff as published, and now enforced by Customs Department at Auckland, since July 17th, SHOW ADVANCES on many lines of Boots, Shoes, Slippers, Kubbers, etc., most of which cannot be made in New Zealand, of from 26 TO 75 PER CENT. This advance re. fers especially to goods worn by working men, farmers, and their wives and families. As our chief tr»de is with the above-named consumers, we have decided to retire from business if proposals pass the Bouse. Our entire stock of Inglish and Colonial Boots, Shoes, and Slippers is now on sale at reductions to effect speedy clearance. We intend devoting our entire energies in future to supplying the Working Men, their Wives, and Childien with MOTOR CARS, which the Government have taken 20 per cent, duty off, and now allow in FKBE. Proposed increase of duty on Boots falls heavily on workers with large families, whose imans will only allow the purchase of medium priced goods, while the aristocracy, who can afford 26s to 3">s for their Boots. Shoes, an! Slippers, will have their burden considerably lightened. PRJPOSVI, MEANS PENALISING TH 0 POOR and lightening the burdens of the wealthy. Yours, THOMAS MILLER. Miller's Fancy Repository and Boot Palace, 100, 102, and 104, Victoria, st., Auckland.
