Auratus, a New Zealand Oup candidate, has just been put into work after a good spell. H. French is breaking in a two-year-old brother to the ponies Manapouri and Waihou. Things at Ellerslie are particularly quiet, as most of the stables are giving their charges a spell. Mr James Muir has taken his horse Ruaparaha, double Bracelet winner, to his winter quarters in the Waikato. Stayers for the most part are conspicuous in N.Z. Cup field this year by their absence, whilst quality also seems lacking. Putty's connections are said to have thrown in for a good win over the victory of their horse at the A.J.C. Winter Meeting.
