The Agricultural Show.

THE great feature of Last week was naturally the Agricultural Show. There was closing of shops and offices and banks to a considerable extent, and only good behaviour by the weatherclerk was wanted for success, and as he happened to be in a good humour, the hoped-for result was more than attained. With beautiful weather, a very goodly list of exhibits as well as some novelties in the way of sports, the crowded attendance — which is quite a record one for the Association's show — filled np to the brim the Committee's well - earned cup of pleasure, besides providing a nice little surplus to hand over to the Society's funds. The exhibits were numerous, and well up to the standard of previous years. Horses and fat cattle gave every evidence of care in their selection and breeding, but there is not any doubt, now the Association possesses a showground of its own, that on future occasions there will be far more entries in all classes. The various contests elicited the greatest enthusiasm, and excellently fulfilled the intentions of the promoters in providing visitors with amusement for their money, as well as interest and instruction. The boys' riding contest was an especially exciting feature, and was greeted at its conclusion with quite a furore of applause. There is no doubt that these contests were a great factor in drawing the great crowds. The arrangements in connection with the exhibition were carried out without a single flaw. Everything that careful forethought, prudence and experience could suggest was done. The. committee must have bestowed a most* commendable amount of time, thought and labour to produce such a happy result. Nothing was left to chance. The Judging was carried out tepeditiously, and so faithfully that Slot a a.wardsv ;• We. cannot speait fob fiighly -Of the splendid manner in which all the members .of the couwittee cooperated to ensure a^occess which only nnpropitious weather could have marred^ A special word of praise is due to Mr Edwin Hall, the energetic secretary. He was really übiquitous, and nothing seemed to escape his personal care.
