At the very next election, oat there came . a perfect mob Of poshing female candidates intent upon 'the job, And so cleverly they managed us male voterß to cajole, That fifty female members got elected at the poll. The papers said the presence of those female candidates Would tend to raise the dignity and tha tone of the debates. There would be no more obstruction, they would settle down to biz, Those lovely female members, free from disabilities. But one day a point of order Mrs Brown got up to raise, That Mrs Jones made use of an unparliamentary phrase, By remarking Mrs Brown was very far from being a saint, And alleging her complexion showed a trifle too much paint ; Mrs Jones insinuated Mrs Brown had told a lie, And the state qf party feeling was soon running very high ; Forjthey sailed into each other quite- regardless of the chair, And the floor was littered over with false teeth and tnfls of hair. But they always voted solid in a systematic pfan On any legislation that affected tyrant man ; They interdicted smoking, and deprived ns of our beer, And stack a tax on bachelors of a hundred pounds a year ; They sacked the civil servants from all billets small and great, And declared that only females should hold offices of State, And they said that men no longer should enjoy monopolies, They were all reserved for women freed from disabilities. If a man makes any money by his hands or by his brains, He must band it to the missus' — tis the law that so ordains ; He mast ante up his earnings, for in law it is a crime If he doesn't part the dollars and look pleasant all the time ; He may groan beneath the harden, bat he can't escape the facts, He's a lunatic responsible no longer for his acts ; He is quite non-compos mentis, simply helpleas as he is, Till he gets an Act removing all his disabilities.
