Ralph's Taupiri Coal Mines.
Ralph's. Taupiri Coal Mines are now in fnll swing and are turning out daily one hundred ton's of first-class coal of a superior quality, which finds a ready market. The month of July waa a record one for Huntly, the output being far in advance of any previoua month, and thongh thore are four mines at work more than one-third of the yield came from Ralph's. Mr Coutts, Inspector of Mines, visited the colliery the other day and expressed himself much pleased with the -method of working and very confident of highly-successful results. For household purposes, the coal cannot be beaten. It is a clear coal, not brittle nor inclined to ran to duat, and it gives a bright flame and intense heat.
A Yankee club cynic and lawyer, in the course of a general conversation, inquired languidly of an Australian : ']Say, mister, do they talk the same tongue out there as us?' 'No,' replied the visitor. 'Wall, what do they talk ? pursued the American. ' They speak English,' waa the stranger's c rnel reply.
We couldn't have this in New Zealand. A London Evening News just to hand saya : 'The arrangement whereby waitresses were engaged for service on the Terrace of the House of Commons proved so successful last year that it has been renewed for the coming season.' We can just imagine what a lively time a bevy of charming waitresses wonld have were tiiey to be told off to attend to the noble legislators of this colony.
There is only one Official Catalogue for the coming Auckland Industrial and Mining Exhibition, and Geddis and Blomfield have the sole rights to it.
Harry Ellison has taken over the Thistle Hotel. We have no doubt he will make a success of it.
