Pertinax. — You must be quite an experienced musician ; you blow your own trumpet so manfully. But our orchestra is quite full at present. Not Out (Masterton). — New South Wales claims credit for the three highest scores ever got in intercolonial cricket, viz , 775, 576, and 570 ; all obtained again t Victoria. Therefore you are bowled out this time. D. G. (Rue sell). — Your verses are brightly written. Shall be glad to hear Irom you again, and will promise to keep the officepup chained up when you come along. He never misses a poet— when he's off the chain. Artist.— There is a small ' illustrated ' edition of press clippings published in Dunedin, called Tlm Democrat that would doubtless be glad of your services. It has to put np at present with pictures chopped out of office furniture with a meat axe. Martha (New Plymouth).— Your little story seems to be only a round-about way of telling a rather hoary-headed funnyism which was built up on these lines, as we recollect it :— ' Was Rome f ounc ed by Romeo ?' inquired a pupil of the teacher. * No, my son, 1 replied the wise man ; 'it was Juliet who was found dead by Romeo.' H. J (Napier).— One verse is about all our readers can stand : Mary had a little calf. The calf it wouldn't grow ; And when ehe put the bloomers on, It n-nsan ugly show. There might be a social revolution up here if we published the rest. Besides, the bloomers are pretty well confined to Christchurch at present. Anti-Humbug. — It's the easiest thing in the world to get a medical diploma in Yankee land. There is an Eclectic Medical School in Milwaukee (Wisconsin) which is sending out circulars to pharmacists and others beyond the United States, offering medical diplomas for sale at £7, while for countries which recognise the title of Dr. but not the right to practise, the price is reduced to £2. Every quack can get his diploma.
