Ring.

The drawing for the Observer Annual Gift Distribution took place on Tuesday evening last under the supervision of . a committee of citizens of high standing in the community- The Hon. T. Thompson, who was to have been one of the committee, was called away to Wellington on Monday and consequently was not present, bat the other gentlemen were duly in attendance, and carried out the drawing carefully! They have handed to us the attached prize list, from which we find that Mr A. tfnlljames, of Tuakau, has won the beautiful Haake piano, while the second prize of a valuable oil painting by Charles JBlomfield went to Mr O. Arnold, of New Plymouth gasworks. Mr Leabourn, of TeKopuru, was the lucky winner of Kohn's coveted ring, and Miss Martelli, Ponsonby, of the gold watch. The other prizes are well scattered, some going to Auckland city and suburbs, others to the provincial country districts and others again to the South. This prize list again serves to demonstrate bow well the Observer is circulated. Ist prize. — Charming chromo picture. To the winner of this prize, the Proprietors of the Observer intend to present a beautiful Haake piano, which they have purchased from the British and Continental Piano Company, who are the agents for this celebrated maker. The ' Haake ' Pianos have now been fifty- five years before .the public, their manufacture having been commenced in 1837. Thei?. sterling merits have been bo thoroughly proved in thia colony during the past fifteen years that they have become unquestionably the most popular of all moderate priced German Pianos. The rule of this manufacturer from the first has been to put forth none but thoroughly reliable instruments, and, as a result, the business has increased year by year, until it has assumed such huge proportions that Herr Haake has now the largest Pianoforte Manufactory in Hanover, with the most modern labour - saving machinery and appliances, and turns out upwards of 2000 pianos yearly. The 'Haake' Pianos are constructed on most approved scientific principles, embracing • every new invention of value, and having, in addition, a number of distinguishing characteristics and improvements, which, combined with the careful selection of the finest materials, and the unremitting care bestowed on the workmanship and mechanism of every part of the instrument, have resnlted in producing the 'Haake' Piano as it stands today, elegant in appearance, rich and full in tone, with a beautiful elastic touch, and so perfectly finished and solidly constructed as to stand alone amongst all the pianos of its class.— 10584, 4..
