Our readers will notice by an advertisement elsewhere that the Bntchers' Picme which was to have taken place on Wednesday afternoon this week, has been postponed on account of inclement weather till Wednesday week, March 3rd.

The Wakatere's excursion last week was so popular, and proved so enjoyable, that the Northern S.S Company have been prevailed upon to lay her on for another excursion on Saturday afternoon next, 20bh inst. She will cruise round the islands of the gulf via Waiheke and Man-o'-War passage, returning by way of Kangitoto passage. Pare, only two shillings.

Mr Edwin Geach jun , has arrived, and is making all the necessary arrangements for Carl Hertz's brief season which opens at the Opera House on Saturday next. Hertz is the cleverest of all conjurors who have visited Auckland, On this occasion, he brings with him two entirely new and up to-date illusions entitled respectively, ' Vanity Fair,* and ' After the Mood,' which have created quite a sensation elsewhere. Carl is assisted by Mdlle B'Alton, and the Cihematographe forms part of the show.

The committee which has been ap pointed to collect subscriptions for the purpose of presenting Mr Henry Worthington with a purse of sovereigns in recognition of his very long and eminently valuable services in the cause of education, are working hard to make the testimonial worthy of both pnpils and teacher. Multitudes of pupils have enjoyed the benefit of Mr Worthington's teaching skill, and many of them are holding high and responsible positions in various parts of the colony. As a full, list of them cannot be compiled, we are requested to state that subscriptions will be thankfully received by the Hon Sec. of the Testimonial Fund, Mr W. K. O. Walker, whose-address is 93, Queen-street, Auckland.

A rare musical- treat is being prepared for the people of Auckland. For some weeks a strong orchestra and chorus, 130 performers in all, have been diligently rehearsing under the direction of theconoposer (Mr Ay F. Hill) his ' flinemoa ' cantata, which produced ouch a furore in Wellington when performed there recently at the, Mr Alfred F. Hill is an Auckland" Boy, and his cantata is the moat ambitions and meritorious musical workyet turned, out by a New Zealand composer. It ia to be • produced at the City Hall on Monday week by the Auckland Amateur Opera Company, acting in .conjunction with the Musin Concert Company, and will be performed also on the two following nights. The box plan will be opened at Wildman and Xiyell's on j Monday night.
