PIRONGIA,
A very enjoyable social was held in the Alexandra Public Library in aid of the Library f and. There were between 30 and 40 present. The first item on the programme was a song by Mr Chappell; Song, Miss Papesch, * Some day I'll wander back again ' ; violin eolo, Misses Seccombe, Aubin, and Mr Aubin (it was most charming); Heading, Mr James ; Song, Miss Aubin ; Song, Miss Hamilton, ' The boy in Pirongia ' (encored) ; piano solo, Miss Seccombe, ' The Bella ' ; Song, Mr Aubin, 'Mandalay'; trio, Misses Hamilton, Prentise and Anbin, ' Three wise old women ' (encored) ; Song, Mr G. Applej ard, •My Love ' (encored). After the first dance, supper was carried round by the ladies. The belle of the evening was Miss E. Reynolds, in red butter cloth with yellow silk trimming; Miss Finch, black cashmere; Misses Hodgson, one in pale blue, the other in pink ; Miss Wills, pink satin blouse, dark skirt; Miss Harper, yellow blouse, brown skirt; Miss Allan looked very becoming in black silk. The beau of the evening was Mr 0. Beynolds, whose swallow tail coat attracted great attention. The music was most efficiently provided by Misses Allan, Finch and "Wills. Everyone was sorry that the entertainment came to a close at so early an hour in the morning.
