KUAOTUNU.

The ball given by Mr and Mrs Cowan, host and hostess of the Kuaotunu Hotel, on Friday evening, in honour of the opening of the new hotel, was acknowledged one of the best ever held here. The hill was very nicely decorated with beautiful evergreens, urder the supervision of Mr J. awindley, and the bunting, kindly lent by the officers of the Jqna for ihe occasion, added greatly to the display. The attendance was estimated at over 100 couples, the music being supplied by Messrs P*-rcy Hill (piano), Tait (cornet), and Neil and Donald McDonald (violins). At mionight, an adjournment wa.i made to the dining-room of the hottl, where a splendid supper was laid out.
