REEFS.

There are a number of known reefs which traverse the gronnd of this claim, but perhaps the principal one is the well-known Flying Cloud reef, which strikes right across the Britannia in a direct line north for your claim. This reef is a mnllocky formation from two or three feet thick, and wherever worked has proved to be more than payable, in fact, many hundred ounces of gold have been taken out of it, but it has never been worked below the creek level, owing principally to the fact of the abundance of water ; however, it is likely to be thoroughly tested now and I have no fear of the result, for I feel confident that when the Britannia Btrikes it in their shaft they will have rich ore. There is another large reef cut in the Hauraki Gem Gully which strikes north east and south west and must pass through your ground, it is about four feet thick and has a very nice appearance. No work has been done, but it should be followed and tested. What is known as the Big Tunnel was put in many years ago, the intention at that time beiDg to go right through the range, but after driving something over 1,000 feet the funds ran out and the enterprise was abandoned, but this tunnel, which goes for 700 or 800 feet through your property, has cut a number of large reefs, bat none of them were ever prospected at the time. They cross the tnnnel at nearly right angles, that is to say they strike north and south or nearly so Unfortunately the mouth of the tunnel has fallen iD, consequentely I could not get in to examine the reefs, but I saw tbem at the time the tunnel was being driven, and if my memory serves me right they average from two to four feet thick each. I find also below this tunnel on the boundary there are two other large reefs showing, they strike north and south, dipping west ; they should also be prospected. And last, though not least, there is the Tokatea Big Reef which strikes along the range north and south with a very strong underlay west, therefore, either with a low level or shaft, this reef will also be found on your ground. There is no doubt it is the main backbone of the Peninsula, and it is within about a quarter of a mile on either side that the bulk of all the gold got on the Tokatea Eange has been found, and I firmly believe that very rich shoots of gold will yet be found in this reef. It has never been half tried so far, but is likely. to be better tested in the near future by the proposed low level tunnel into the north and Harbour View grounds, as a strong company has been formed to teßt this reef thoroughly. I find, also, that your claim stands in a most unique position, being as it is entirely surrounded by large English Companies' claims, which are all actively engaged developing their propeities, and many of their leefs cannot fail to traveise your ground ; therefore, their work must make your ground valuable. In conclusion, I consider if you only judiciously expend a fair amount of capital in developing your propertj yon will have a valuable gold mine. I am, etc., (Signed) J.
