Things are pretty well the same this week as they were when I penned my last notes. The tone on the acrip market is steady and firm. There may not be a very large volume of business, but sellers are holding for their own price, while buyers are numerous enough if they can get the stock at their figures The crushing returns from the Crown, Victoria, and other mines have been satisfactory, and from all parts of the gold fields the news is satisfactory and gratifying. Work is now being vigorously commenced by the Home purchasers of the Maoriland aud Hauraki bouth, while, with the advent of spring, many others will follow suit. News from London this week indicateb a renewed activity there in New Zealand mining investments, and now that the midsummer holidays are over, we may ex pect advices of fresh sales from day to day. Mr Roche, who went Home in January and floated the Retreat, writes me very favourably concerning the EDglish market. He" says there is unlimited capital there for investment in really good and sonnd properties. This opinion is confirmed by advices from other quarters, so that the outlook in this respect is a very promising one. Mr St. Auburn, a gentleman of considerable mining experience in Johannesburg, arrived by the mail steamer on Friday to report upon certain properties that have been accepted in London subject to inspection and approval. He has been to the Thames and js now at Paeroa, whence he goes on to Karangahake and Waitekauri. Mr St. Auhurn was preceded by letters which spoke of him as an expert of great knowledge and experience, and one upon whose judgment Home investors would not hesitate to act. This is the class of men we want on our goldfields.

_Ko\ai. Sta.nd.uu>. — Stated that Blr Iversey Coopor has floated this property at "Wbarekeranpunga. It is next to the Tavistock, and has very good prospects. Katik. — Cut another reef eighteen inches wide, twelve feet ahead of Aitken's. It shows gold. VicroiuA. — Yield of .£7BO worth of gold from 115 loads of quartz. There is nothing wrong with this. Heitmax's Fkekhoi.d.— lt is a long lane that has no turning. Pump is keeping the mine dry, and they are driving in good sandstone country. Eossell. — Shareholders have authorised the sale of this property, which is next the Grace Darling, and most favourably situated. Leo Myers has it in hand in London. _ Welcome Find. — Manager got 83 lbs of picked stone on Saturday, and the thieves got it on Sunday. This is one effective method of cleaning up, anyhow.

Nonpareil. — They have been getting what they call picked stone from a three feet reef, which reef, by the way, is a very fair one. Brilliant. — Three very fair lodes to hand, and the prospects of the mine appear to be decidedly good. Jubilee. — They are opening out in the creek on a body of stone which they believe to be the main portion of the Waitekauri reef. Talisman.— Stock moved upwards on the result of the crushing, and sales done as, high as 18/.- It is good price at the present time. Trilby. — They are spending a shilling or two in telegrams very judiciously. Take it gently. Eising Sun.— Mr St. Auburn, the newly arrived Johannesbnrg mining expert, is to report upon this property, and if nis report is favourable the mine will be taken over by an influential London company. It is a thoroughly good property and has an excellent gold-bearing reef. Stanley — A rise is being commenced fco thoroughly teat the Wheel of Fortune leader. Stock Bteady, but not so firm as it was.Woodstock. — Better prospects in the mine, and the resumption of crushing lifting the stock steadily. Latest sales 55/-, and stock worth the money. Carnage — They have got a twenty inch lode on the east side of the range, which it is proposed to test by sinking. Haukaki North.— Directors up to their eyes in the choice of a qnartz mill. The mine wants it badly. Bunker's Hill. — The latest news is that Legge's reef should be to hand in another 19 feet of driving. Stock lifted a bit during the week. New Whao. — An eighteen inch lode has been cut in the Middle Star section. Bat how about the Home flotation ? Try Fluke.- Handed over to the Home purchasers, and Mr J. Goldsworthy re-ap-pointed manager. Improved machinery is badly needed in this property. Morning Star. — Some talk of a qnartz mill. Prospects fully warrant the expenditure. Sheeidan. — Still looking well. Stcck very close to 5/. Gol' en Point. — Prospects in this property have been brightening again lately. Crown Imperial. — If an assay yield is £3 odd, what ought the crushing dirt to be worth? Golden Anchor. — Still expecting news of that reef. One of the beat things in Kuaotunu if they get it. Haukaki No 2.— Shaft going down steadily. Stock going up slowly. Harp of Tara. — Value dependent chiefly upon Home flotation Good thing if sold on terms stated. If not, give us the money. Maori Dream. — Ought to be a very de" cent property by-and-bye. Byuon Bay. — Not the worst property at Waitekauri by any means jnst now. Waitaia. — Contract let for driving 000 feet at the new low level. Property au excellent one, and justifies the expenditure of money upon it. May Queen Extended. — Shares have been in fair request this week. It is a question just now of ' to be or not to be.' Grown.— Month's yield is £2,000 worth of gold from 580 tons of ore, or an average of £3 9s lOd. I thought it would have been better. Albert. — The prospects at this mine, which adjoins the Tairua Broken Hills on the course of reef, are very good, and the price of stock has hardened gradually this week until it is now over 2/-

The Eaglehawk special claim, which is to be placed on the market to-day | (Thursday) by Mtssrs J. F. Buddie and Jones, is a holding of 96 aorea in a good position at Tararn. It is bounded by the City of Auckland (Sylvia) Raiser and other well-known claims. Forty thousand shares are being offered to the public at £30 per 1,000. The progressive firm of Messrs Heather, Eoberton and Co. has recently taken into partnership Mr J. F. Colegrove, who hae been loDg and favonrably known in Auckland as local manager for Messrs Nelson.Moate and Co., tea importers. Mr Colegrove is a gentleman of high standing in business circles, is possessed of good business capabilites, and should be a great help to the firm in their large and rapidly increasing business connection. Mr C. A. Stubbs, Hobson's Builddings, will place on the market on Monday next the Kotokohu special claim, ■which is in close proximity to the now famous Princess May claim, from which such rich assays were obtained n few weeks ago. The shares are to be sold at £30. Mr John McCombie, manager of the "Woodstock, and Messrs J. I. Philips and Co., mining surveyors, have repotted very favonrably.
