At least, that is what everyone has been calling it,and we suppose we may follow suit. Yes, you know the parties, or, at all events, you are sure to know one of them. She was an Auckland society belle, and an exceedingly nice girl, too, and amongst her many admirers was one old enough to be her father. Her people were anxious that she should many nim, but she would have none of the May and December business. She didn't want to be an old man's darling. » • » Of course, as is usually the case, the suit of December was assisted by his possession of the almighty dollar, but the other and more favoured suitor had the powerful aid of that little monkey Cupid. And now it is an open secret that the irate parent was too late. News is to hand of May's marriage to the lover of her choice. We add congratulations to the many that are being so freely expressed. * * # The engagement is announced of Miss Dye, of Kaukapakapa, to Mr Lewis, of the same district. ♦ # * A social evening was held in the Sacred Heart Schoolroom, Ponsonby, on Friday last, which proved a great success.
