MATAMATA
A very successful dance took place on Friday, 14th inst, in connection with the Matamata dancing class. Owing to the unfavourable weather the attendance was not quite so large as it might have been, but the room was comfortably filled. The ball-room was very tastefully decorated with evergreens etc., and combined with the bright dresses of the ladies, the effect was very nleasing. Mr Skene made a most efficient M.C, while the dance music supplied by Mr Watson left nothing to be desired. The ladies all looked charming, and it is hard to give an impartial opinion, as to who was entitled to the honour of 'belle,' but many decided in favour of Miss Graham. During the evening Mr Mason favoured the company with an excellent recitation. Mr Wilson gave a good song, and the sword dance, and hornpipe were respectively given by Messrs Skene and Dowless. Dancing was kept up with much spirit until daybreak, the evening proving a pleasant finale to a very enjoyable season.
