Skating: Carnival.

The fancy dress carnival at the skating rink last week was something of a novelty. It was arranged for as a benefit to Professor James, and it was easy to see from the well-filled floor and the crowded spectators benches that Professor James is popular. Many new and attractiye features were introduced, the fancy skating by Professor James was much admired, and the may-pole dance by children was very pretty. Limelight effects were attempted by Mackie, but they were very sickly attempts. The most interesting feature of the carnival was the competitons, in which the public were the arbiters, each person present having one vote.

For the best-dressed lady, Miss Goldie, as an Oriental Dancing Girl, was the wintier with 82 votes. The costume, . which was much admired, was one of Miss Cantlon's. Miss Raines, as America, was second with 27 votes, and Miss Baker, as Saxon Princess, and Miss Green, as Buttercap, followed with 21 each.
