A laboe and fashionable gathering was present on Saturday afternoon at the Auokland Polo Club's annual sports and races held at Potter's Paddock. Fortunately the weather was beautifully fine. The stand, which was crowded, presented a scene of animation, brightness and beauty, most of the costumes worn by the ladieß being light, and many exceptionally pretty. His Excellency the Governor, Lady Glasgow and a party from Government House occupied specially reserved seats in the centre of the stand, and remained until nearly the close of the programme. Impey's band and an excellent drum and fife band from H.M.S. Coracoa were both present and the music throughout the afternoon was really enjoyable. The various events were for the most part keenly - oontested and were very interesting, Lord Kelburne and a number of officers from the Curacoa taking part. The intervals between the events were rather lengthy, consequently it was near six p.m. before the programme was concluded.

Lady Glasgow wore a handsome gown of pale blue crepon and pretty little bonnet en suite, Lady Augusta Boyle looked very nice in a dainty pale yellow gown veiled with Indian muslin, white hat trimmed with flowers ; Lady Dorothy Boyle was simply dresßed in white. Mrß Stewart, lovely pale yellow silk gown ; Miss Wanohope, pretty oreme flowered muelin, finished with apple green silk; Lady Folkestone, greyißh bine gown, finished with narrow black velvet, black hat ; Mrs Gibson, wife of the captain of the Caracoa, stylish grey check silk, finished with black velvet ; Miss Holroyde, stylish white drill costume, black and white hat; Mrs D. B. Cruicksbank, stylish grey costume, white hat ; Mrs Hanmer, handsome black costume; Miss Bookeß, pretty white, also Misb Forbes ; Mrs Bull, black Bilk with tiny coloured stripes, pretty bonnet ; Misses Bull both looked nice, one wearing dark Bkirt, white blouse, her sister all white ; Mrs Kilgour, handsome brown bengaline silk, becoming bonnet ; Miss Kilgour looked nice in bine crepon ; Miss Otway, dainty white ; Miss Girdler, white ; Miss Buckland, navy ; Miss Hay, pretty grey and pink, her sister charming white; Miss Whewell, pretty blue, hat trimmed with roses; Mrs Sharland, tasteful fawn costume ; Miss E. Isaacs, stylish black.

Mrß W. R. Bloomfield, tasteful creme crepon gown finished with rolls, etc. of creme

satin, large and stylish black satin hat trimmed with ostrich tips and sable tails ; Mrs T. Morrin wore a beautifully fitting

creme gown trimmed with lace insertion, charming little black and pale blue bonnet ; Mrs E. H. Jackson wore an elegant grey silk gown effectively trimmed with green velvet and creme lace yoke, Btylish grey hat with green trimmings ; Mlbb Chambers looked well in blue drill ' costume, becoming hat ; Mrs Lucas Bloomfield looked very handsome in a charming biscuit muslin gown trimmed with lace insertion over blue silk bands, large and jauntily bent Leghorn hat wreathed with flowers ; Mrs Bloomfield (sen.), handsome petunia coloured gown, bonnet to correspond; Mrs F. Ireland, elegant gown of dark green corduroy silk and velvet trimmed with bands of velvet, bonnet en suite ; Miss Ireland looked stylish in holland skirt and jacket, petunia blouse and sailor hat banded with p6tunia ribbon. # * #

Mrs Archie Clark was very daintily and tastefully attired in creme Indian silk, handsomely trimmed with Bilk Maltese lace ; black chip hat trimmed with velvet and silk Maltese laoe ; Mrs Worsp wore a striking costume of fawn drill, with sleeves and trimmings of black silk brocade, small bonnet of burnt straw, trimmed with black velvet and pink flowers : Miss Worßp looked well in grey striped crepon, and pretty grey hat wreathed with poppies, her younger sister looked charming in lemon-coloured crepon, with full sleeves, etc., white soft silk, large Leghorn hat, the crown encircled with ostrich feathers ; Mrs (Col.) Daweon, blue flowered costume, trimmed with lace insertion, gem hat ; Mrs Moresby, pretty grey gown with Bleeves and bands of grey velvet, stylish bat; Mrs Ridings, handsome cloak of Boft blaok silk, stylish black lace bonnet, with yellow roseß ; Mrs J. M. Dargaville, well-fitting black gown small blaok hat with crimson poppies; Mrs Colegrove, flowered heliotrope gown, black velvet hat with ostrich tips and mauve flowers ; Mips Colegrove, white gown, black lace hat, her sister, green skirt, white blouse, and white hat with green and white trimming ; Mrs Walker, handsome black silk gown, black and green bonnet; Miss Walker looked nice in holland skirt and jacket, bright crushed Btrawberry blouse, hat with crushed strawberry trimmings; Miss Hesketh looked very pretty in dainty blue crepon, with zouave of white applique embroidery, white hat ; Miss Johnstone, Btylish grey gown, trimmed with black lace insertion, becoming hat ; Miss WyldeBrown looked nice in bisouit colour, stylish brown chip hat with brown and blue ostrich tips; Miss Moss, stylish white skirt and jacket, blue blouse and Bailor hat.

A very stylish and striking costume was worn by Mrs Ware, of fawn drill, with butterfly collar and bands of white drill, becoming hat; Miss Bursill wore a very tasteful and pretty heliotrope gown, finished with irridescent passementerie over bands of creme satin, stylish hat ; Miss Tilly, stylish biscuit-coloured gown finished with brown velvet, brown chip hat wreathed with yellow roses ; Miss Maxwell, brown costume, hat to correspond ; Miss Percival looked nioe in creme, stylish white hat with crimson roses ; Miss Thorpe, pretty pink striped costume ; MiBB Wilkins, very stylish fawn gown with front of shot silk, and trimmed with moss-green velvet, stylish green and white straw hat, trimmed with green silk ; Mrs Masefield, handsome gown of black satin and crushed strawberry brocade, bonnet to match; Misb Pierce, pretty blue crepon gown; Miss Dixon looked nice in white striped gown, sailor hat ; Miss Phillips, white, sailor hat ; Mrs P. A. Edminston, very stylish plaid costume, trimmed with dark green velvet, stylish hat to correspond ; her young lady friend looked very pretty in blaok and white check silk, white chip hat trimmed with black ribbon velvet and ostrich feathers ; Miss Minnitt, stylish pale blue and grey crepon, black hat ; Mrs Buckland, grey costume, bonnet with pink roses ; Mrs Waller, very pretty grey gown, stylish hat; Mrs T. Carr, stylish crushed strawberry gown finished with lace, bonnet to match.

The excursion arranged by the committee of the Weßt End Lawn Tennis Club took place on Friday evening, and was very numerously attended by members of the club and their many friends. The ferry steamer Eagle, which had been chartered, was brilliantly lit with eleotrio light, and as the decks are spacious several dances were indulged in, Mr Burkes band

supplying splendid music. Mr Dix gave two capital comic songs, and Mr J. Parr a couple of amusing recitations. The secretary and committee worked hard, even providing tea for all on board, their kindness being much appreciated. Altogether the outing waß both successful and enjoyable, and when the steamer returned to the Ponsonby Wharf soon after ten p.m., all regretted that the houra had Bped bo rapidly. Amongst the ladies on board were Mesdames Gentles, Newell, Bastard, Russell, E. Buchanan, Misses Butters, Barry, Edwards, Dyson (2), Russell, Edmiston (2), Edwards (2), Airey, Owen, Patterson, Dunnett, Macindoe, Whitelaw, Reeß (2), and others too numerous to mention.

Amongst the ladies present at the Bplendid performances given by the Brougb-Boucicault Go. since their opening were Mrs Ware in a beautiful cerise satin gown finished with black lace ; Mrs Archie Clark, lovely pale pink satin ; Mrs Sydney Nathan, creme Bilk finished with crimson poppies; Mrs Stevenson (Remnera) handsome black silk gown; Misa Stevenson stylish black and cardinal costume ; Miss Jessie Stevenson, pretty creme ; Miss Moss Davis looked very pretty in creme silk, with sleeves and sash of yellow silk; Miss George, very pretty pale blue; Miss A. Briton (who has arrived from Sydney on a visit to Auckland) wore a tasteful pink evening dress, cloak to match ; Miss Berry, becoming pale blue cashmere and silk costume ; Mrs Ponßford, black silk skirt and dainty blouse of light silk and chiffon ; Mrs Alfred Nathan, lovely creme silk gown trimmed with lace; Mrs D. B. Cruiokshank, handsome blue silk gown veiled with blaok lace; Mrs E. Hesketh, very tasteful silver grey silk, and lovely creme cloak; her daughters looked nice, two wearing oreme silk, and one pale blue, pretty creme cloaks; Mrs J. M. Geddis, black velvet evening dress ; Mrs Butt, blaok silk ; Mrs J. J. Holland, handsome black silk ; Miss Holland, very pretty pale pink; Mrs Nashelßki, handsome light dress trimmed with green silk ; Miss Nashelski, dainty white ; Mrs L.D. Nathan, beautiful yellow satin gown with sleeves of black velvet ; Miss Nathan, charming white silk; Mrs Bunby, black silk, richly trimmed with jet ; Mrs Lewis, black silk, crimson cloak; Miss Dolly Davis, pretty pale blue ; Mrs Steriker, black silk, and pretty creme silk blouse ; Mrs A.
