TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB'S SUMMER MEETING.
This meeting is fixed for the 27th and '. 29th mat. The programme for the two days racing is an excellent one, snch as is likely to draw the best of our horses. There are eight events on each day, inolu- • sive of two pony races. Thi« branch of sport is becoming very popular with all race-goers. The two chief events of the meeting are the Takapuna Cap of 20 soys and the Steeplechase. The weights for these two events are already issued, and as a lot of interest is centred in the Cup and Steeplechase, I will say a few words anent some of the horses engaged and their imposts. Lottie at first sight would appear to be ill-treated with 8.6 over 1£ miles, but she has done pretty well all that has been asked of her, and though I do not fancy her ■ for such a distance, Mr Knight has not ill-placed her. Ida (8.4), too, is fairly handicapped, and she is up to this weight and likely to he better handled than with a small, light boy up. I consider her chance a fairly good one. Tallooh (8.2) is really the best treated horse in the race, seeing he performed so well at Ellerslie, bat 1 do not like the horse under anything over 8.0. Still he is likely to furnish into a favourite for this Race. Royal Rose's form is too indistinct. He looks well, and goes well on the track. Pablicly, we have liltle to guide us. Despised (7.10) has a chance at that weight. He is not to be despised because he is a hurdler. Witness others before him. Chatterbox is a relation of Mutiny's from South. He has ran in hack company, aod may be good enough foe a race of this sort; Annabel (7.6) is racing into form again, and if she continues to improve she will shake the Cup. His Worship and Sunbeam, both may have a : show, with 7.2 and 6.12 respectively. Despised's place in the Steeplechase with 13.0 has been well earned by the old . horse. Even that weight is none too much for him. Mangare would ran well at Ellershe with 12.0 I doubt if Takapuna will suit him. Fishmonger (10.10) likes the course, however, and I like his chance, and ■ Crazy Kate at the same weight will run :. well. Chester (10.4) might have an outside chance. The only other one I care to '. mention is Bombardier (9.7). This horse, if well, should about win. Nominations ' for minor events at the meeting close on : Friday, the 12th, and accep lances for Cup ',■ and Steeplechase are due on Friday, Jan. 1 19vh. i
