WARKWORTH.
Mr Jackson Palmer was the recipient of a pleasing mack of esteem on Wednesday, 29th ult., when a social was given in his honour by his lady supporters in thi3 district. The Masonic Hall was the scene of festivity, and dancing was kept up with animation till the early hours of the morning. The refreshments spoke well for the culinary skill of the ladies who supplied them, and the music contributed by Mrs Kayner, Mrs Connolly and Miss McKinney was all that could be desired. At the close of the dance, Mr Palmer read a telegram from the Premier, expressing his disappointment at Mr Palmer's losing his seat, and announcing the splendid majority of Liberal candidates returned. All then joined in singing ' Auld Lang Syne ' and ' He's a Jolly Good Fellow.' Mr Palmer, who takes his defeat like a man, carries the best wishes of those in the district for his future success.
