Zolakone is as refreshing as a cheque for £5. Harry Bennett has made the Pier Hotel one of the best known houses in this city. The Pier lunches are first-rate. Have you tried them? And the liquors are all Al. Have you tried thetn ? Mrs Yandle, who is so well-known in Auckland, announces that her annual gift bazaar is now on at Masonic Hall, Newton, and will continue over Friday and Saturday. Everyone receives a present. And some of the presents are both costly and beautiful. Th« well - known firm of timber merchants, Messrs Leyland, O'Brien and Co., have recently had the whole of their mills fitted out with the very latest patent automatic sprays, each of which can throw a supply of water over a space of ground 30ft in diameter, sufficiently powerful to extinguish the biggest fire that ever occurred in Auckland. This enterprising and deservedly popular firm are so busy that it is only by working night and day that they can keep pace with the stream of orders which are pouring in from all quarters. Three shifts of men are kept hard at work. To further facilitate the turning out of work, Messrs L. p. and Co. have decided to have their premises fitted through with the electric light. Are we to attribute this success to the briskness of trade, enterprise or popularity ? Certainly enterprise and popularity have a good deal to do with it.
