TOO MUCH SMILE.
He was down from the gumfields for Christmas, and he decided to look in at the photographer's and have his picture taken for the folks at home. It would kind of surprise them, he thought, to see what a bronzed, bearded fellow their quiet and simple Sandy had developed into. The photographer arranged his camera, and then, mechanically addressing his subject, said : — " Now theni look pleasant ; smile a littie." Sandy ventured a Christinas smile. "Oh, no," added the photographer hastily; "not a smile like that. I have only a small plate in !"
