THE AFTERMATH.
Jack had been away from the Thames for some years, but last Christmas he ran down there for a few weeks holiday. After he returned, his friend George remarked to him : ' You don't seem to have enjoyed yourself at the Thames this year. What was the matter?' Jack — ' Hadn't time to form any new acquaintances.' 'No time?' ' No ; I was kept busy kissing the babies of the girls I used to be engaged to.'
