The Ponsonby Regatta.

It is somewhat late in the day now to refer to the Ponsonby Regatta unless it is to congratulate the officers and committee upon the most successful issue to which they brought their exertions. It was unfortunate that the weather proved showery, but even this drawback did not spoil the enjoyment of the spectators, of whom there was an immense number. If the weather had been fine, the success achieved would have been unprecedented. Time was when the Ponsonby Kegatta was a very popular fixture, but for some years it has lapsed altogether. Let us hope that now it has been revived so successf illy that each coming year willing: workers will be found to keep it going and carry it on to the same successful issue as on Saturday week last. The .programme was a capital one, and thanks to tub races, duck-hunts and other similar novel events, the spectators were kept fully amused. Much praise must be given to Mr A. C. Jones for the admirable manner in which he discharged the onerous duties of secretary, toMrC.G. White, the treasurer, to the judges of the several events, and to one of the best and most energetic committees that ever under boo a the management of a regatta, viz. : Messrs H. Gentles, C. G. White, E. Baxter, W. Jones, A. H Jones,, Oarollo, Cunningham, MasefieH, Knight, Koefe, A. C. Jones, Waymouth, Stichbury, E. Dowden, Bell, T?. W. Edwards, Bnck, Meehan, Scott, Cossar and Buchanan.
