A Loyal and Pat(he)riotic Champion.
' Treason doth never prosper ! What's the reason ? Because, when it prospers, 'tis no longer treason.' Mr Heriot dubs ' as traitors to the sjstem ' the four members of the Board who favour paying teachers according to merit, and includes in the same category others who sympathise with and warmly support such members. Anyone opposed to the present rule, which awards one class D man £429, and another, who is equally or more d eserving, £129 a year, is doubtless a dangerous traitor to a favoured menial in receipt of his £429 out of indirect taxes. By ' system,' of course, Mr Heriot comprehends only the undue amount of lucre that he and the bloated or decrepid old fowls of the Nest receive and greedily pocket.
